I am with your thinking on this, Nancy. Laughable if it was not so seriously weak-minded or ignorant.

How much sawdust, and how many 5-gal buckets could you buy for $42 million? It seems like everyone is hooked on the High Tech aspects of life, and cannot possibly conceive a simple, down-to-earth answer to the "call to nature."

Funny. My toilet is controlled by the biological macroprocessor called my brain. And it works just fine- never needs to be rebooted. Doesn't need electrical power- contains no rare earth metals.

Why in the world are they taking this approach?

The mission to build a toilet that utilises human poo.

The Gates Foundation has just announced a $42 million project over several years to develop a toilet that doesn't need water, mains power or sewerage and that will cost next to nothing

Imagine a toilet that takes human waste and converts it into minerals for fertiliser and clean water, while harvesting energy in the process.

The toilet doesn’t use water, doesn’t need expensive infrastructure of a sewerage system, doesn’t need to be connected to mains electricity and, unlike composting toilets, doesn’t need lots of space and time. If a new multi-million dollar project, the ‘Reinventing the toilet challenge’, is a success, such a toilet may soon become a reality. Read more...
