I looked around for a picture link to my hand-crank food processor and found one at amazon.com. This is fairly cheap and it works great!

Cara Lin,

Thanks for sharing the idea of a biological shredder- sounds cool, entertaining, and efficient!

Wayne,

I checked out the hand-crank shredder- thanks! I would have jumped all over that one if it also had a cross-cut feature and didn't say "As seen on TV"- LOL. I have a number of hand-crank devices and the most used one is my kitchen food processor. I've put almost 10 years on that thing and it still works great!

Happy Earth Day Everyone!

Two women at thecompact@yahoogroups.com just described how they use gerbils and Degus for paper shredding and entertainment. Apparently, these little critters shred everything (junk mail, books, magazines, egg cartons, cardboard) to an ultra-fine state perfect for composting. The bonus is they also prime it well with droppings and urine.

I've heard several people ask about non-motorized gadgets-- most recently a paper shredder --so I decided to start this thread as a place to post information on such things. Here's a paper shredder:
