Rotted leaves. Rake up your leaves in the fall and let them sit in a pile for a year or so. They'll rot down into "leaf mould."

Ah ha! That was a great point of confusion for me when reading your book. "What the hell is leaf mold? You let the leaves grow mold, then, how do you get the mold off? What the hell?"

Thanks for this clarification.

And nope, it's not in the glossary of the Humanure Handbook. Perhaps future editions should have this clarification, I'm sure we're not the only ones who've had this question.
