We have switched to a 5 gal pail with a screw on full sized lid called a gamma lid for our kitchen scraps. It has a coarse thread and a gasket and works very well for vegetable waste. Since I think more moisture is better for the compost and we now have the capacity I have started adding old coffee and rinse water from the coffee press and other liquids, old bits of soup etc. Most weeks I am getting a good vegetable slurry to put on the compost pile. For users in drier areas this could be a good non wasteful addition to their compost.
