I just received my copy of the Humanure Handbook. I noticed that a "flood plain" area is a contraindication to a humanure compost arragement. My property consists of a cottage between two brooks. There is approximately 300 feet between the brooks. The cottage sits 100 feet from the main brook. The area is considered a "flood plain" according to our insurance, but locals tell us that it has "never" flooded as far back as they can remember. I have placed my compost bins in the center between the two brooks, but when the water is high there is a small, overflow stream which develops about 50 feet behind the bins. Should I be concerned about this? I placed the bins there during low water, but after some heavy rains noticed this overflow stream. Where the bins themselves are is dry. I would appreciate any comments....
