It comes from "Living Downstream," 1997, by Sandra Steingraber, Page 60. It's on page 5 of the 3rd edition of Humanure.

Good question. I think it depends on who did the study and when. More and more carcinogens are being identified, from tobacco tars to environmental estrogens (DDT and other pesticides), UV rays (skin cancer), asbestos, etc. etc.

The actual figure might be higher than that, IMHO.

The Humanure Handbook (page 8) states: "80 per cent of all cancer is attributed to environmental influences."
